Blog 7 - Truth

Sometimes we have experiences that are outside our frame of reference. We have an idea of what is possible and then something else happens. Sometimes we know of something that no one else seems to know about. Such is the case with war. Most people have never been to war. What they may think it's like may be very different from what it is. Most people have never seen anyone die. The soldier here, Lemon, is a young healthy guy playing a game who in a split second gets blown up. Most people would not know what that would look like. Who is to say it did not happen the way the author said.

We know from our experiences with both civil and criminal court cases, that a lawyer can lie with the truth. The facts may be accurate, but the summation is not. Likewise, we may tell the truth with inaccuracies in an effort to convey an experience.

We know a war story is true when the soldier tells it over and over again. He/she is trying to get it right. It is a new experience for him/her, and probably new to their listeners as well. They hope that at some point they will be able explain it.
